Mountain Skills 1 Training
Mountain Skills 1 is a practical two-day training course designed to help you become more confident navigating and making decisions independently in the Irish mountains.
Most of the course is spent outdoors in the Galtee Mountains, learning by doing.
Over the two days we cover maps, contours and mountain features, map setting and self-location, pacing and timing, grid references, basic compass skills, route planning, mountain hazards, equipment, access and responsible hillwalking.
You do not need previous formal navigation training, but some hillwalking experience is recommended.
Mountain Skills 1 forms the first stage of the Mountaineering Ireland Mountain Skills pathway.
Maximum group size: 6 participants.
If you need to cancel more than 24 hours before your course, you can choose either:
• A 90% refund, or
• One free deferral to another available Mountain Skills course date.
A deferral must be requested at least 24 hours before the course and can be used once only.
A booking that has already been deferred cannot be deferred again. If you do not attend the deferred course, the original course fee is forfeited.
Cancellations made within 24 hours of the course are non-refundable and cannot be deferred.
If Beyond the Glass Adventure Tours has to cancel the course, you will be offered either a full refund or a suitable alternative course date.
